Michal Bekes is a Speed 1 racer from Slovakia.
Michal comes from Ždiar in the northern Slovakia surrounded by mountains. Born in a skier family, he started skiing when he was 4 years old.
Since 2009 Michal has raced in the extreme mass downhill Red Bull Homerun, where he has won several times. A Polish co-racer told him about Speed Skiing and that he should try it. Michal was intrigued since he always loved speed. He soon contacted the Slovak ski association. One thing led to another resulting in a Slovak speed record set in march 2015 in Lomnicke Sedlo, the steepest track in Slovakia.
In 2016 Michal debuted in the FIS Speed Ski World Cup in the SDH class using standard FIS downhill equipment. He placed 6'th as best. At Speed Masters in Vars, Michal set his personal record 196.292 using downhill equipment.
Michal changed to the S1 category for the 2017 season. He managed to grab a 10'th place in the World Cup in Andorra and a 12'th place at the World Championships in Sweden.
Michal lives in Lubica, not far from Ždiar. He keeps in shape by doing ski touring, cycling, tennis and swimming.
